About Me

Fiona Vennbrook
Career Change Consultant | CV/Interview Support Specialist | Surfer | Mosaicist

Having had a very successful career in recruitment for over 30 years, I recently realised that the part of the role I enjoyed most was helping people showcase not just what they do, but why they are good at it.  This was by providing people on the search for a new role, with the tools to write an outstanding CV and how to prepare for and present themselves more effectively at interview.

With this passion I decided to set up Vennbrook Consulting to specialise in this area, providing both individuals and also companies looking for outplacement support,  with effective CV and interview preparation techniques which help them move into new roles, new careers and new companies.

It’s important to me that I really get to know you as an individual and to truly understand what’s important to you in your career, to help you move forward.   So, with this in mind, in opposition to big corporate companies’ offerings, I like to provide a service that is very personal, bespoke and tailored to your individual needs.

HELPING YOU MAKE POSITIVE CHANGE

Throughout my recruitment career I’ve been sent thousands of CVs and over 80% of those CVs were not as good as they could be.  I’ve helped hundreds of people find their dream role and have done this by working closely with individuals to ensure their CV really showcases their strengths and is more in line with the role they are looking for.

I’ve also helped people not only progress in their career and make that next step up, but also helped people make drastic career changes by better demonstrating transferable skills.

I’ve helped people move from the public sector into the private sector, such as helping a Detective Constable move into an HR role in a small private commercial company or helping a Transport Manager move into a People Partner role.

By making changes to someone’s CV, I’ve also helped people move industry sector such as one person with 10 years in a City Council and the client wanting manufacturing experience.  With a change of CV and showing transferable skills, the person not only got an interview, but was offered the role as HR Manager Manufacturing for one site…..and now after 14 years he’s the Global HR Director.

You don’t need to be stereo-typed into just one career or just one sector if you have really great transferable skills.  The range of people I’ve supported with improving their CVs ranges from Warehouse Operator, to IT Director, to Engineer, to Business Development Manager and many different roles in the HR Arena

  • Initially I ask for you to send in your current CV to assess as to whether I can help you improve upon it.
  • If not, I’ll let you know your CV is perfect and wish you all the best in your search. 😊
  • If I believe I can truly help you improve your CV, we then agree payment terms and arrange a 1-1 meeting either in person or via VC (Teams or Zoom). This 1-1 meeting is to get an in depth understanding of your experience and career aspirations.
  • Within this meeting I will draw out of you, not just your previous responsibilities but why you’re good at them.
  • From this meeting I will be able to help you to create an effective CV and Linkedin profile which truly depicts why you are good at what you do and the value you can bring to a new employer.
  • Following the meeting I will send you an email with some useful hints and tips along with some example CVs and ask you to re-write your CV with all the new tools you will now have in your portfolio to make it truly outstanding.
  • It’s important that you write the CV, so that it’s personal to you, in your words and writing, so that it’s a true depiction of who you are, what you can do and why you’re good at what you do.
  • I will then review your revised CV and provide further suggestions if necessary to make it even stronger. We will keep revising until we’re both absolutely happy that it’s the best it can be.

Interview Services

HELPING YOU MAKE POSITIVE CHANGE

Undergoing an interview can be daunting, especially if you’ve worked with a company for a long time and haven’t had much experience of interviews. I’ve interviewed and put people forward for interviews thousands of times over the years and from this have created a suite of tools and techniques to help people prepare for interviews more effectively.

I can provide you with the tools necessary for you be comfortable through a challenging interview process, and for you to be able to effectively showcase the value you can bring to an organisation, so you can ‘nail that job offer’ for your dream job.

  • Initially I will ask you to send me your CV and we will then have a conversation about what you’re looking to achieve from interview coaching. You may be a ‘rookie interviewee’ or you may be someone who’s had recent knock backs at interview and need some support.
  • If I think I can help we will then agree payment terms and then arrange to meet on a 1 to 1 basis.
  • Prior to the meeting I will ask you to send me the Job Advert of something you’ve applied for but not manage to secure an offer.
  • Within our 1 to 1 meeting I will conduct a mock interview, to see how you present yourself and how you answer questions.
  • From this I will be able to give you some tools which help you sell yourself more effectively and secure those offers.
  • These tools will help you communicate more confidently, smoothly and professionally
  • I can also give you some really useful techniques which will help you create and deliver powerful, strong answers to challenging questions.
  • We can also practice with tough questions and those that you fear most and identify the mistakes you are making and how to avoid them.
  • I will provide you with tools which will help you prepare to better answer tricky competency questions.
  • We will run through how you can better communicate your strengths into answers which support your application.

I’ve met and supported hundreds of people over the years with this interview preparation, which has helped so many secure the role they’re looking for.

Outplacement Services

If you’re reading this, then you’re a company that cares about its employees and although you’re having to make changes and perhaps restructure, you still want to help those people exiting the business.   This is where I can help both the individual and also support the company in building an improved employer brand as a ‘Caring Company’.

  • It’s important that I meet individuals either in person (my preference if local) or via Teams/Zoom, in order to provide a really personal bespoke service to help them identify and decide what to do next; this is with CV and LinkedIn writing services; help in finding the right jobs; interview preparation; offers and negotiations.
  • I initially have a 1-1 meeting with your exiting employee to get an understanding of their history/experience and an idea of what they would potentially like to do.
  • I then help them to create an effective CV and LinkedIn profile which truly depicts why they are good at what they do and the value they can bring to a new employer.
  • If required, I can support individuals on how to research for a new role and work with them on how to apply/write an impactful cover letter.
  • Once everyone is happy with their new CV, I then arrange another 1 to 1 meeting to run through a mock, competency-based interview and provide coaching on interview techniques – including both ‘in person’ and ‘how to best interview via ‘VC’ (Skype, Zoom, Teams).
  • I follow this mock interview up, with an email providing a swathe of useful information on how to effectively prepare for an interview. This information along with the mock interview, will help them to better present themselves at interview and to be able to have some tools in their toolkit to assist in answering tricky and unexpected competency questions.

Should you have any questions or wish to understand a little more about pricing structures for outplacement services, then please do call or email me.

"Fiona was instrumental in igniting my HR career after I had initially approached her for support while pursuing a different career path. While many other specialists had suggested that i didn't have the required skills and attributes to be successful in HR, Fiona took a different view and instantly recognised some transferable skills that had been previously overlooked. During our interaction, Fiona carefully and skilfully drew out hidden abilities that were transferable to a career in HR. Fiona's ability to see past the CV is remarkable and is a talent that not many people possess, which is one of the many reasons why she has been so successful with coaching and guiding individuals for many years. At no point during our time together did I feel, anything other than well supported, encouraged and superbly guided to ensure that I was able to produce CV which truly represented my HR skills and experience. With polished CV in hand, ready and keen to apply for my first roles in HR, Fiona provided first class coaching for impending interviews, guiding me through potential interview questions and scenarios. Fiona has a knack of making you feel at ease, whether role playing interview techniques or providing feedback post interview, to ensure next interview readiness. I have only thanks and praise for Fiona, who recognised a budding HR professional many years ago and who was the foundation of the senior professional I am today. Not only did I receive first class coaching, mentoring and support, I also gained a long term friend in the process. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Fiona in the future.
When I met with Fiona I was lacking in confidence to take a step into a different role and sector, but Fiona put me at ease and helped me realise what practical experience I actually had. Fiona gave me huge pointers in regards to my CV. I can’t thank Fiona enough for all of the help and support she has given me since we met.
Fiona's supportive and dedicated approach to helping candidates seeking new roles is really impressive. When she commits to working with you she really means it - and she really puts in the effort to help. Fiona provides honesty and candour in her advice, she tells you what you need to hear rather than what you think you want to hear - her very extensive experience always enables her to do this in a careful, supportive and constructive way. Fiona will help you focus with confidence on what you can aspire-to and to sort out the valuable from the mass. Fiona has a tremendous work ethic. She will work with you to create the plan of action to get you where you need to be. Quite rightly - she expects you to put in the effort too. I recommend Fiona very highly to support you in advancing your career.
Sometimes you meet people who are good at their job but Fiona is more than good - she is amazing. Her guidance, professional support and mentoring helped me to land on my dream role. .
After deciding to take redundancy after 24 years continuous service, hence no CV, I needed help and lots of it. I contacted Fiona after reading her Linkedin page and met her for a coffee. I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I've made. A few days later, I not only had an amazing CV but a friend. Fiona made me quickly realise I was 'under selling' myself. Fiona truly is inspirational!!! She has a special talent, the ability to build self confidence and recognise 'worth'. Things I've achieved and thought nothing of, she shouted about. I now have an incredible CV that I'm proud of so when I do get around to posting it, I am confident it won't be put to the bottom of the pile. So everyone, the moral of this post is! If you are doubting yourself and your CV, contact Fiona, you will not be disappointed, you'll simply feel you can 'conquer the world'.
Fiona helped me communicate my experience in a way that would be understood by a wider audience than where I had initially been looking. Fiona is exactly the sort of person you want on side when searching for a role, she just gets it! I strongly recommend Fiona over and above anyone I have worked with thus far. She is a true leader in the industry and I feel very lucky to have been able to receive her expert advice and obtain a role that I am very happy in.
I’m so grateful to Fiona for the support I received, which played a huge part in one of the biggest changes in my personal and professional life. With Fiona's guidance, I was able to successfully make the transition from retail operations and people management into a full HR role – something I wouldn’t have thought possible on my own. Fiona's CV support and interview coaching gave me the tools and confidence I needed to take that step, and you helped me recognise the value of my experience and how to present it in the right way. I would wholeheartedly recommend Fiona to anyone considering a career change, and to companies looking to offer meaningful outplacement support to their employees. The impact has been life-changing, and I’ll always be thankful for the role she played in helping me move forward.
